Last week started the 2nd edition of the Dutch Maritime Week 2012. From 8 till 17 November it's all about the maritime trade. One of the targets is: introducing youngsters to the shipping industry. And -just as important- inspire them to choose for this line of work.   

During this week there are all sorts of activities and AEGIR-Marine contributes - of course. Together with other maritime companies we'll be giving 7 guest lectures for the Maritime Guest lectures-record that takes place during this week.We will do our utmost to make the maritime week a success. After all the maritime industry is great and needs young people with a passion for shipping.

There actually is a site with people spotting ugly ships.
They are not all ugly, but some are very 'special'.

Of course we were present too. Piet Sinke hired the Eendracht, our national tall ship, and organized a day that is unequaled. Great demonstrations of tow boats and life rafts. And of course we met new interesting companies and the people working there.

Under the inspiring coaching of Marco Schoone the AEGIR-team started training in longboat RAN. We still have to get the hang of it, but Martin Visser soon turned out to be a strong mate. We lack some strength and endurance, and perhaps some technique too ;), but we make up for all that with our tireless efforts!

Together with Missing Piece, AEGIR organized a Beach Event for its customers. Watching the games was a pleasure, but so was the clinic given by Roos van der Hoeven & Jantine van der Vlist. They showed us all corners of the field during the clinic.

Recently Switzerland became part of my region. Switzerland is the odd one out. It has no sea, but still some owners and technical managers are located in Geneva.
In a rented car I drove from customer to customer. Outside it was over 15 degrees, but the mountains were still snow covered. Driving like this I suddenly saw UEFA signs. Being a true football fan, I followed those - of course. A moment later I stood before the beautiful UEFA headquarters at Lake Geneva.

I parked my car in the parking lot to work on my notes. Occasionally I looked up and there he was… Michel Platini. Right next to my car. In a tracksuit. He must have been running during lunch ... I thought.
It's funny to suddenly see this man in real life. My football heart missed at least one beat.
